Year 4 2021 - 2022
Autumn Term 2021
We wish all children and parents a warm welcome to Year 4! We have so many exciting things to look forward to throughout this term… a fun-filled curriculum, outdoor learning and even a school trip!
Our first half term’s topic is ‘Sparks Might Fly’, which involves electricity, inventions and the ever-changing technology of our world. We will be planning our own inventions, writing instructions and also reading Philip Pullman’s The Firework Maker’s Daughter, from which we will create our own adventure stories. In our History lessons, we will be learning about the Industrial Revolution, how trains have evolved over time and will investigate the historic Hesketh Bank railway line that ran through our village more than fifty years ago.
In the second half of this term, our topic will be based on 17th Century London. Within this theme, we will learn about the major events of the 17th century, including the Great Fire of London, the Great Plague and the Gunpowder Plot. We will investigate key historical figures from this time period and whilst also delving into the difficulties of living during such a poverty-stricken era. Within our English lessons, we will create our own fairy tales based on Puss in Boots and will also create poems about the Pied Piper.
For any further information about this term’s timetable or topics, please consult our curriculum overview on our Year 4 page.
I am so looking forward to getting to know you all properly, and for the exciting term we have ahead of us. Let the fun begin!
