Spring Term 2019

 

Happy New Year! Hope you had a lovely Christmas.

We are looking forward to teaching our new topic: Traditional Tales. We will be using traditional tales such as Cinderella in our English and Communication lessons.

 

 

Our Maths will consist of reading, counting and writing numbers to 20 and beyond,measuring (introduce cm) feet and Pinnochio's nose! We will also use everyday language related to time, sequence familiar events, measure short periods of time in simple ways and be naming flat and solid shapes.

 

In Phonics, we will be learning to read Phase 3 Tricky words- he she we me be my was they are you her all, as well as reading words, captions & sentences using Phase 3 Graphemes sh ch th ng ee or ai igh ar oo ur ow oi ear air er. We are also going to be distinguishing between real and nonsense words:chain chaim/thall shall and reading  two syllable words:farmyard,rooftop.

 

 

We have also got lots of other exciting activities such as Forest School and Chinese New Year planned (look out for more details of our dragon parade!).

 

Autumn Term 2

 

 

We will be learning about Diwali which is the Hindu Festival Of Lights. The children will be creating their own Rangoli Patterns which are created at the doorstep of homes, dressing up in traditional Hindu clothes and tasting traditional Indian sweets and fruits.

Our other topic this term is Winter. We will be reading popular stories such as Elmer in the Snow, Polar Bear Polar Bear What do you Hear and The Snow Queen. We will find out about the Polar Regions and who lives there, including land and sea animals. We are going to have fun experimenting with ice and snow and creating our own Winter Wonderland.

 

 

 Summer Term 2018

 

Welcome Back! Hope you had a lovely Easter break

We are looking forward to teaching our new topic, ‘Growing and Animals’. We shall also be working up at Tarleton Academy for a half day every Thursday as part of  our Forest Schools learning. We will be be using the outdoors as our learning environment regularly, these sessions will be led by Miss Haworth. 

We are looking forward to improving our balance, coordination and confidence as we learn to ride the balance bikes. Sessions will be run by the coaches from the West Lancashire Sports Partnership.

In English we will be reading numbers to 20 and beyond and in Literacy we are reading Jack and the Beanstalk, The Tiny Seed, My Bean Plant Diary, A Day at Green Hill Farm. Also, we will be looking at a range of non fiction books about plants and animals.

 

In Maths we are sharing , halving and doubling the magic beans and measuring beanstalks, recording favourite flowers and animals using pictures,tallies or numerals. We will also be recognising and sorting coins.

 

 Our Role Play area will be a Garden Centre/ Farm Shop/ Vets. What a busy time we are going to have!!

 

 

 

 Spring Term 2018

Our topic this half term is Traditional Tales. We will be reading  a wide range of classic tales such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man and the Little Red Hen to name just a few.

 

We will be busy building castles, acting out these wonderful stories and learning about what it would have been like to live in a castle long ago.

We will also be learning and developing many of our school values through the stories that we read:  being honest linked to the story of Pinocchio and being respectful to each other and understanding that we all different, linked to the Ugly Duckling.

We will be learning about Chinese New Year, tasting Chinese Food and performing the Dragon Dance!

 

Autumn Term

Reception Class are settling well into school. They are making new friends and learning all the school routines and classroom rules. We have been having lots of fun in our Outdoor Area, making ‘flower soup’ in the mud kitchen and being busy gardeners!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We have been singing lots of number rhymes, 5 Little Ducks, 5 little Speckled Frogs and many other popular songs.

Our topic is ‘I am special’. The children have been sharing their ‘All About Me Bags’ telling their new class their favourite toys, colours and activities.

We are looking forward to learning about 'People Who Help Us' and starting the Phonics Program.
