Celebrating Holi

This week we held our third Respect and Tolerance Day at All Saints School.  We celebrated the Hindu festival of Holi and related the beliefs of Christianity to the beliefs of Hinduism.  We started with a fantastic assembly led by Rev. Dave.

Each class created a beautiful piece of art which will be framed and placed around school for us to remember what each piece symbolises.  As Holi is the festival of colour, everyone wore colourful clothes and we looked amazing.  We had our faces painted and tried food from India.

We also lit a small bonfire and burned any characteristics that we didn’t admire such as jealousy or hatred and threw grain onto the fire as they do when celebrating Holi.  We also took part in lots of classroom activities such as creating our own symbol, as symbolism is important in Hinduism, learning about India – customs, beliefs and location, and lots more.

We had a great day and learned a lot.
